On Friday, March 27, the Recreation and Tourism South Holland Network Day brought together professionals from across the sector for a day full of inspiration, knowledge exchange, and new connections.
During one of the sessions, Ko Koens and Iris Kerst explored the concept of regenerative tourism. The session focused on what makes tourism truly regenerative, moving beyond sustainability toward actively contributing to the improvement of destinations, communities, and ecosystems.
Participants engaged in an interactive discussion on whether—and how—it is possible to assess the level of regenerativity of tourism initiatives. What criteria can be used? How do we move from ambition to measurable impact? These questions sparked valuable dialogue among attendees.
The workshop also invited participants to share examples of regenerative tourism initiatives in South Holland. This exchange of ideas highlighted both existing efforts and the potential for further development in the region.
This session marked the starting point of a new research project, commissioned by the Province of South Holland, and carried out by the Research Group New Urban Tourism at Inholland University of Applied Sciences, focusing on regenerative tourism in South Holland.
